Advice for the Aspiring Photographers Out There!

Today someone asked me, if I could give someone who wanted to be a photographer some advice what would it be and why? You know, I've spent all day thinking about this question and how I could possibly answer this. Should I completely boost their dreams with the positives of my journey to let them find the negatives themselves or vise verse? Well I decided a nice healthy dosage of both would be good. So here we go. The things I have learned from being a photographer...my knowledge I pass down to you.

You don't have to put out $1000.00 on the "latest" equipment, you really don't. I bought my Sony DSLR refurbished for $333.00 and you know what? It's the best camera I have ever used! I learned it so quickly!!!In fact you don't even NEED a DSLR! For years I used digital cameras just little ones with not much settings to chose from but I worked with it! (in fact I'll post a blog about the camera's I've used!)

It's smarter to go for the more simple DSLR's for your first one, buying a "top of the line" camera ASAP can lead to being a waste of money because they have sooo many features it can be overwhelming! Simple DSLR's are a good way to learn a camera's basic functions because every camera is going to have those! Buying a camera with extra oomph can lead to disappointments when the next camera you shoot with doesn't have them!

Don't buy into the whole Nikon VS Canon VS Sony argument. Yes some bodies are built better than others, but ultimately it's up to the photographers personal choice. I used to be ALL Nikon. I didn't want anything else but a Nikon and I spent months trying to find one for cheap, but a friend of mine convinced me to go with Sony and I am more than pleased!!! It's not about the camera, it's the person using the camera and each company is just as good as the next!

Be warned: being a photographer is an EXPENSIVE hobby and I mean CRAZY expensive you will shovel out hundreds if not THOUSANDS of dollars on lenses, soft boxes, bags, filters, programs etc. just to make sure you stay on top of things and such. It's very expensive. A 50mm lens is $150!!! It's crazy how expensive things are!

Don't buy studio equipment until you're trained in how to use it! Especially if you're doing location shootings. Read up on the equipment and how it works. Making sure you know the ins and outs BEFORE you handle the equipment can save you from accidentally breaking something. watch YouTube videos on the items to see what the equipment is like, the ratings and such!! Always make sure to check thoroughly before purchasing!

Please stay tuned for Part II of this.
